Castledale is a fictitious small town in the heart of the Yorkshire and Durham Dales. The town is served by a single track branch line which provides a passenger service to nearby towns, as well as goods traffic to serve local industries and farms.
The model is set between 1955 and 1962. The station building is based on part of Morpeth. There is a single road goods shed and a short bay platform. Coal drops serve a small coal merchant's yard and there is a separate house for the Stationmaster. A single road engine shed houses the station pilot engine.
Motive power consists of 15 steam locomotives of the period together with green diesels and 2 DMUs. Stock is mainly 'Thompson' coaches or BR Mark 1 in 'blood and custard' or maroon livery, with a variety of wagons - both BR and private owner.
