Fawcett Street Halt took about six months to build, measures just 3ft., and is a departure from Andrew's normal theme of industrial BR shunting, to a slightly more passenger oriented side of BR operations.
The layout depicts a one-time mainline through station, which has been the victim of BR rationalization (a victim of the Beeching Act perhaps ?), and is now just a simple halt. As well as the station, there is also a DMU holding siding, and a small goods/coal yard which add to operational interest. The track work is by Peco, with points electrically operated. Most of the buildings and other fittings are a mixture of kits, ready made and scratch built items, while Woodlands Scenics materials have been used to represent grass, bushes, etc.
Although the layout is fictitious, it has taken its inspiration from old and current areas of Sunderland; i.e. the low-relief car-park is based on that at the Civic Centre, the signal box is based on that which once stood outside Sunderland Central Station, while the station itself is based loosely on Sunderland Central. Another interesting feature , is a disused tunnel which stands next to the tunnel accessing the fiddle yard, the former Andrew is convinced is haunted!
